BOSTON — The Ayanna Pressley for Congress campaign today announced the official endorsement of Chelsea City Council President Damali Vidot. Vidot was first elected to the Chelsea City Council in 2015, topping the ticket as a first-time candidate. In 2018, she was elected President of the Chelsea City Council, having previously served as Vice President.

“Leadership like Ayanna’s is what our country needs at this critical moment in history. It is not enough for our elected officials to vote against the repeated attacks on our communities — we need representatives that will lead alongside us to help build the communities we deserve,” said Vidot. “I am proud to support a candidate for Congress who has intimate knowledge of how decisions that are made in Washington affect us locally. Ayanna’s energy and advocacy, as someone who is on the front lines daily, is exactly what we need in the halls of Congress. Ayanna is great for Chelsea — and the district.”

“Damali is an exceptional leader for Chelsea and a model for women in government all across Massachusetts,” said Pressley. “Chelsea, along with other cities and towns in the 7th Congressional District, is facing threats from a hostile administration in Washington, and Damali has been an incredible advocate on behalf of vulnerable communities in her city and beyond. I am humbled to have earned her support.”

The endorsement comes on the heels of the campaign’s announcement earlier this week that it had raised over $364,000 from more than 1,500 donors in the first two months of the campaign. The Ayanna Pressley for Congress campaign also marked numerous grassroots milestones, including a strong presence at 30 Massachusetts Democratic Party caucuses in every city and town across the district. This past weekend, the campaign’s first “Day of Action” brought out over 40 volunteers who participated in signature gathering efforts in Somerville, Cambridge, Chelsea, and Boston. The campaign has already activated more than 300 volunteers across the district in just two months.
